The Reimbursement Shifts Affecting Your Bottom Line

The Reimbursement Shifts Affecting Your Bottom Line

This week, the President signed into law Congressional legislation to avoid a 24% cut in physician Medicare reimbursement. However, doing another short term “patch” furthered delay efforts to repeal and replace the physician sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula, which determines physician payment rates. HIDA’s Government Affairs team published a follow-up Policy Outlook summary, explaining which SGR policy changes and offsets were included in the bill.

These changes are not limited to the physician market, however, as many of the offsets paying for the SGR patch draw funds from hospital, laboratory, and long-term care markets. HIDA recently hosted reimbursement outlook webinars for acute, physician, and lab markets (PDF), as well as long-term and post-acute care markets (PDF). I encourage you to review the information specific to your market to determine what necessary changes or preparations you may need to make to preserve your organization’s bottom line.
